My dear Mr. Pittman:
I am so sorry that you have been obliged to right again about your pictures. But the fact is that I have been overwhelmed with work here, owing to many causes, one of which the great deal of consideration that has be be given exhibitions on account of the financial state of affairs which seems to be growing worse instead of better. Because of this important factor, I have decided to cut out many of the important shows for the year, as it costs so much to put a show over, and so little can be expected as returns, because of the existing financial conditions. Your show is therefore impossible for the season, and I am returned your pictures to you.
I regret very much to have to do this, and hope that an opportunity will present itself sometime soon for me to visit Philadelphia, when I shall be glad to come in to see your work at your studio.
