Thanks for your telegram. I am shipping the Karl Free painting to you and ask that you close the transaction for me.
The exhibiton was shown at the Art Students' League after it returned from its tour, and was very well received both by the critics and the artists. It has made a good impression and is counted, I believe, as the best traveling show of American contemporary art to date. I cannot tell you how deeply I appreciate all that you have done in the matter and look forward to seeing you next fall, when we can talk it over and you can tell me more in detail I congratulate whoever bought the Karl Free. It is a beauty, and if it had not been sold I should certainly have bought it. I believe he is one of the coming big men. I hope you will tell me something about this lady's collection, because it interests me tremendously that a purchaser could be intelligent enough to buy a picture instead of a name.
