Full Text	May 26th, 1917. Edwin Markham, West New Brighton, L.I. New York. Dear Comrade: Was much disappointed to miss you at Mrs. Stockwell’s when I ran over at breakfast time Thursday morning, as I had a bee in my bonnet which I wished to put in your ear, in regard to the Round Table program for next year. But since we cannot talk eye to eye about it, I must needs try to outline it for your consideration when time for consideration comes to you. Now how does it strike you to call the meeting for 7.30 p.m. (they will willingly stay three hours), announce the topic in the Messenger at the commencement of the church year, in October, to give every one a chance to come primed on it, same to be The Grand Man in Civil Affairs, subdivided as follows: His Eyes; How they are Blinded: How they may be opened; His Hands: How they are shackled; How they may be Freed; His feet: How they are hampered; How they may be loosed. Three men and three women to talk 10 minutes on each sub head, with intervals of 10 minutes between each for three-minute discussions by any in the audience desiring to participate. That would take two hours, leaving time for you to sum up, and perhaps give us a poem on Swedenborg from the side of his social gospel. If that appeals to you, I will spend the summer in getting up the subjects, and preparing to refer the speakers to Swedenborg for his teachings on these points. I think Mr. Bray, Mr. Louis F. Post and Mr. Small would take the topics for the men, and Mrs. Louis F. Post, would take one of the women’s. I don’t know right now another woman to suggest, but we could look for one—of course I would take one. I imagine that would make a very lively and interesting and profitable evening—what say you? Have you got a Potts Concordance of Swedenborg’s writings? Of course we have one, and most useful it will be in such a preparation. If you have not the Messengers for March 21st, April 18th, May 9th-16th and 23rd, let me know and I will send them to you, for I want you to read my series on “How Shall We Teach Truth?” consecutively, when your vacation comes, if you have no time before. Am very desirous that you digest those, and my essay, at the first opportunity, so that I can discuss them with you. Have been in a dozen minds about letting you see the enclosed “pome” which persisted in writing itself on the way home. I reckon I feel the way Peter did about being crucified the same way his Lord was (you know he asked to be hung on the cross feet uppermost) in talking to you about these verses, which can only be properly spelled “pome” – only yourself having the right to use the “e” in its usual position! If I can make them presentable, so you will not blush for me, by next convention, I want to use them for a prolog to yours on Swedenborg, --IF—etc., etc. At the Round Table, of course. Of course I would not want to have the authorship known, but would get a good speaker to read or recite them. I VERY seldom do such things, but couldn’t help this. Am enclosing the two leaflets of Mann’s I spoke to you about, and sending under separate cover the little edition on “God, Providence and Creation,” to which I also referred. Have you ever read Mr. Vrooman’s Religion Rationalized? If not I will send you one, as I have a number of the paper edition, and it will be suggestive to you, I think. Not to impose on your time, I will close, merely remarking that we had a pleasant trip home, where we found that the bird had been stolen, and the dog, and several bags of flour (think of it!) had disappeared! Nothing else had gone wrong, however, and we can take refuge from our minor ills in the many pleasant recollections of the 1918 convention, not the least of which are those with which you were identified.
